How can we achieve success with positive attitude?
You’ve probably heard this phrase before, but what is a “positive mental attitude” actually supposed to be? And how does having one lead to success in life?

The three key elements

We’ll break it down for you. It comes down to three key elements: Optimism, Positivity, and Commitment. All of them are the cornerstones of the P.M.A., which is why they’re listed first in its name.

Optimism

Optimism is the belief that things will turn out well in the end. It’s the first cornerstone, because it’s the most important. This can be a little hard to achieve if you’ve been through a lot of hard things in life, but if you can manage to keep yourself positive and believe good things will happen to you, this will likely pay off for you.

Some ways to become an optimist

Forgive yourself for any past failures you’ve had. If you’ve always wanted to be an athlete but have been unsuccessful at becoming one, don’t make it worse by telling yourself, “I must suck because I keep failing at this.” Instead think of it this way: “I may not have been good at this yet, but I’m going to try again and eventually get good.”
Approach challenges positively. If you have a challenge that you’re trying to overcome, don’t tell yourself things like “this will be really hard” or “I don’t know how I’ll do this” because these types of thoughts are discouraging and will likely make the challenge harder. Instead, just tell yourself “this isn’t going to be easy, but I’ll try my best and it will take some time but I’m sure I can do it.”
Think positively. Instead of spending your time thinking about the bad things that have happened, spend some of it thinking about the good things that could happen. Imagine yourself living in a nice house, with a nice wife and kids, in great health and all other aspects of your life going well.
Try to think positively all the time. Look for good things in everything you do. Instead of just seeing problems everywhere you can look for one small or big thing to be thankful for. The more you practice thinking positively, the easier it will become and the more good things will start to come your way.

Positivity

Being positive is the second cornerstone of having a positive mental attitude, because without optimism you can’t be positive about anything. Just like being optimistic is about looking for the good in things all the time and being positive is about using words that are helpful in everyday life, such as praise and encouragement rather than insults or discouraging words.

Commitment

Commitment is about being willing to work hard and make sacrifices for the things that are important to you. It’s about following through with the things you set out to do. If you want to be successful in life, this is a very important cornerstone because success doesn’t happen without hard work and sacrifice.

How do you know if you have a positive mental attitude?

There are three main ways to know if you have a positive mental attitude:
Observing yourself. If you’re noticing regular positive things happening to you, then chances are you do have positive mental attitude. For example, if you’re getting good grades in school or doing well with your friends and family, this will likely mean that your outlook on life is generally positive.
Other people’s reactions to you. If people who know you well or the general public are saying good things about you, this is most likely an indicator that your mental attitude is positive. You’ll notice this especially in the way people react to other people who are less successful than yourself or have worse situations than yours.
Other people’s actions. Sometimes things you do for yourself may be hard to notice, but other people will usually not miss them. For example, if your good grades are noticed by your teacher and other students, this will show that you have a positive mental attitude.
